How to Rock the Athleisure Trend
By now, everyone has become familiar with the fashion, not a trend, but a movement, a force that is athleisure. At present, as its power continues to grow, so do the many ways in which you can show the love for your new favorite trend. You see, one of the best things about athleisure is that it’s not and exclusive little club to which only certain pieces and clothing items are allowed access. As the influence of the trend spreads, so does its versatility, and we’re constantly coming up with new and interesting ways to rock it, and that is what today is all about.
Do it like a Bella
Just in case you’re not prone to experimenting, and sporty style has always been up your alley, you can simply take cues from Bella Hadid and be ready for most occasions and situations. The supermodel is often spotted rocking leggings, a sports bra and a hoodie with a pair of jeans in a contrasting color, and always with killer specs and designer bags. This last one is probably where you’ll have to up your game as athleisure and luxury have become a unified force, so if you want to look stylish while rocking your run-of-the-mill sports attire, you have to add a little ‘sprinkle’ to the look with great eyewear and a designer bag, or at least a quality solid duffle.
We did say that you can rock the ‘original look’ almost everywhere, and by that we meant running around town, going to brunch, the gym, even to the airport, but there are certain social and business situations to which you can’t exactly show up in leggings and a crop top. This is where items from other trends come to your rescue. A pair of great wide-leg pants can be paired with a simple tee and an oversized double-breasted blazer (which due to the casual cut kind of belongs in the athleisure family). Now, in order to achieve the look you aim for, you will need a pair of Adidas tennis shoes, and a belt bag – not a regular fanny pack. The belt bag still has a certain elegant appeal, which makes it acceptable in an office environment, and so do the tennis shoes, so don’t make a mistake and go with the chunky dad sneakers.
At the beach
As hot days are is fast approaching, we simply have to take the beachwear into consideration and make it a part of the athleisure conversation. As seen during the Australian Resort Fashion Week, frilly pastel swimsuits are this season's trend. On the other hand, more functional and athletic swimwear such as Mint Athletic represents the new cool when it comes to the beach style. The designs are minimal, functional and practical, yet not devoid of great style and hints of regular trendiness. This summer isn't a perfect timing for retro prints. Leave your cherries printed swimsuit home for now, and go for something more on point.
Whimsical and romantic
A romantic date night could not even be imagined without you suffering in heels. If there are ladies out there who love wearing heels, kudos to you, but we have a sneaking suspicion that most girls will be running to their nearest sneaker store once they hear that even the most romantic, breezy sundresses and even evening date dresses can now proudly be rocked with any kind of sneakers you want. Not only will you still look sexy, but you will also exude those cute and down-to-earth vibes, which is always a bonus when it comes to not only style but personality as well.
Turn it around
Of course, as said, some women enjoy the literal elevation a great pair of heel gives them. Worry not, there is a place in athleisure for you, too. For instance, you can use the moment of fame the side-stripe trouser/track pants are having (especially those that can be unbuttoned) and tuck in a regular tee, or even a color-block hoodie during those chillier days. Wear stilettos with this outfit and you’ll channel your inner Rihanna.
The best of both worlds
If there is anything Armani’s spring lines have taught us, it is how surprisingly well a cool sweatshirt with color block details can match with a romantic tulle skirt. This is yet another proof that athleisure keeps the door open for all possibilities. For instance, an outfit like this, or one with even a metallic pleated midi skirt, can be perfect for those days when you want to send out romantic vibes, but also remain comfy and not look like you’re trying too hard.
As you can see, there are almost no rules when it comes to athleisure, and that’s where its glory lies. All you need is one bonafied sporty item, and there is nothing you can’t make happen.
